Why are coordinates not returned for an address?

Coordinates may not be returned when DQE cannot determine a reliable geographic position for the submitted address. This can happen even when part of the address is valid, because address validation and geocoding do not always provide the same level of precision.

Why coordinates may be unavailable

  • the address is incomplete or ambiguous;
  • the address can be recognized, but no coordinate information is available;
  • the street or address-level location is not available in the geocoding data;
  • the postal code, city, or street information is inconsistent;
  • the requested location is outside the available geocoding coverage.

Address validation vs geocoding

An address may be validated as deliverable without coordinates being available at the same level of precision. In this case, DQE can confirm the postal address but may not be able to return exact geographic coordinates.

What to check

  • Verify that the address is complete and correctly formatted.
  • Check whether the postal code and city match the street address.
  • Remove any extra information that is not part of the postal address.
  • Compare the response with the address validation result.

When to contact DQE Support

If coordinates are expected for a specific address, provide the full input address, the validation result, the geocoding response, the expected coordinates if known, and the request timestamp.
