This article covers creating a Unify process whose Process kind is Data Prep Format, Data Prep Find Replace or Data Prep Audit — grouped under Data Prep in the Process kind picklist. For Duplicate Check and Multi-source Duplicate Check, see Set up Unify processes and rules. For B2B, Address, Email, Phone and Name Check, see Set up Data Quality processes (B2B, Address, Email, Phone and Name). For day-to-day navigation once your processes exist, see Using the DQE Unify Console.
Starting a Data Prep process
Open the DQE Process tab and click New. In the Process kind field, pick your check under the Data Prep group. Unlike Duplicate Check and the Data Quality checks, Data Prep processes don't create any DQE result fields on your records and don't use a DQE Mapping record — unless the source is a Data Cloud object, in which case a Mapping is required like for any Data Cloud process.
Data Prep Format
Once you've selected your source object, for each field you want to reformat:
- Pick the field in Select a field.
- Enter the pattern to match in Origin — check Use Regex if it's a regular expression rather than plain text.
- Enter the replacement pattern in Format.
Click the arrow icon to add the field to the process, then repeat for as many fields as needed. Use Preview to check the result before saving.
Example (illustrative — the exact pattern syntax isn't documented anywhere in the package, so confirm it with a live test before relying on it):
- Without Use Regex, to normalize a legal-form abbreviation: Origin
Sarl, FormatSARL. - With Use Regex checked, to turn a DD/MM/YYYY date into YYYY-MM-DD: Origin
^(\d{2})/(\d{2})/(\d{4})$, Format$3-$2-$1— assuming capture groups are referenced as$1,$2…, which is not confirmed against the Unify engine.
Data Prep Find Replace
Configured the same way as Data Prep Format, with Find and Replace fields instead of Origin/Format — also available as plain text or, with Use Regex checked, as a regular expression.
Example (illustrative — same caveat as above):
- Without Use Regex, to fix a company rename: Find
Old Company Name Inc, ReplaceNew Company Name Inc. - With Use Regex checked, to strip a protocol/"www." prefix from a website field: Find
^https?://(www\.)?, Replacehttps://.
Data Prep Audit
Data Prep Audit doesn't map or reformat any field — it runs an existing Duplicate Check rule set against your records, without merging anything, to measure how many would be flagged. Once you've selected your source object:
- Select a Ruleset — pick one of the rule sets available in Rules Manager (see Set up Unify processes and rules).
- Name and Audited Records — a free-form name for the audit and the number of records to audit.
- Audit Steps — toggle each rule from the selected ruleset to Audit or Skipped.
There's no Preview button for Data Prep Audit — run the process to see its results.
